VII.4.31 Pompeii. March 2009. Room 31, wall painting of Theseus abandoning Ariadne. Theseus is looking at the sleeping Ariadne who is on the beach on a bed of seaweed.
His foot is on the plank of the ship that will take him to Athens. See Helbig, W., 1868. Wandgemälde der vom Vesuv verschƒütteten Städte Campaniens. Leipzig: Breitkopf und Härtel. (1217). Now in Naples Archaeological Museum. Inventory number 9052.
