UMass Amherst Collections
The Yuri Kochiyama Cultural Center was created as the United Asia Cultural Center at UMass Amherst in 1989 to support the growing population of Asian and Asian American students. The UACC was renamed the Yuri Kochiyama Cultural Center in honor of Yuri Kochiyama for her belief in liberation and social justice. A space for the Center opened in Worcester Dining Hall approximately 1999. One wall of that space was covered with a mural containing elements of landscapes from Asian locations. The building and mural were demolished in 2020. This collection of images documents that mural for those who knew it and for any who might want to recreate it.
